Diferencias en el consumo alimentario, composición corporal y actividad física entre estudiantes universitarios con obesidad de peso normal y con delgadez de peso normal

Resumen

La obesidad de peso normal (OPN) es un problema de salud prevalente, caracterizado por presentar un Índice de Masa Corporal (IMC) normal concomitantemente con un elevado porcentaje de grasa corporal (%GC). Un estilo de vida no saludable, marcado por la baja calidad del consumo alimentario y la falta de actividad física, constituye factores contribuyentes para la OPN. El objetivo de el estudio fué investigar las diferencias en el consumo alimentario saludable, la actividad física y los parámetros de composición corporal entre estudiantes identificados como OPN y delgadez de peso normal (DPN). Se realizó un estudio transversal con 149 estudiantes universitarios. Las medidas de composición corporal se obtuvieron con el equipo InBody 370s. Los datos de actividad física se midieron mediante el Cuestionario General de Actividad Física, y la calidad del consumo alimentario se evaluó utilizando el registro de Frecuencia Alimentaria y el Indicador de Alimentos Recomendados (RFS). Se aplicaron pruebas comparativas para evaluar diferencias en las variables medidas entre los grupos. Entre los participantes, el 31,5 % fueron clasificados como OPN, el 49,7 % practicaban actividad física moderada y solo el 27,52 % presentaron adhesión a una dieta saludable. Además, se observó que los estudiantes con OPN presentaron puntuaciones inferiores de actividad física y de consumo alimentario saludable en comparación con el grupo DPN. También se encontraron diferencias significativas en los parámetros de composición corporal, en los cuales el IMC, el %GC, la masa de grasa, la masa libre de grasa y la tasa metabólica basal (TMB) fueron mayores en los estudiantes con OPN (p < 0,05). Este estudio enfatiza la necesidad urgente de intervenciones orientadas a la promoción de estilos de vida saludables, capaces de ayudar a los estudiantes a alcanzar y mantener una composición corporal equilibrada. Al concentrar esfuerzos en el aumento de los niveles de actividad física y en la mejora del consumo alimentario, es posible mitigar los riesgos asociados a la OPN y obtener mejores resultados en salud. Así, los hallazgos sugieren que las instituciones de educación superior deben implementar programas de bienestar dirigidos, como educación nutricional, iniciativas de actividad física en el campus y recursos de salud accesibles, para estimular cambios de estilo de vida sostenibles. Estas medidas pueden contribuir a prevenir problemas de salud relacionados con la obesidad y mejorar el bienestar general y el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes.
