This study aims to evaluate prevalent parasites in waters of the Monte Alegre Stream located near the Sanitary Landfill (AS) and the
System of Treatment of Health Services Residues (STRSS) of Ribeirão Preto. Water samples were collected in several points of the Stream’s course,
considering the load of effluent liquids that it receives from the AT and the STRSS, and from other sources, mainly the sugar manufacturing plants
and the Clinics Hospital of the Medicine School of University of São Paulo. The analysis of parasites and bacteria was carried out in the Laboratory
of Environmental Health and Parasitology of the Ribeirão Preto’s Nursing School. Samples were collected in duplicate in previously decontaminated
1L bottles in 9 preestablished points. After the collection, samples were taken to the laboratory and preserved at 4°C. For qualitative and quantitative
analysis an optical microscope and a Sedgwick-Rafter camera were used. Fecal coliforms analysis was done using the Colilert method. The analyses
showed that in most points no parasites, eggs and/or larvae were identified. However, in two points we found Hymenolepis sp, larva of Strongyloides
stercolaris and ancylostomids egg. One considers that, as the collection was carried out during a rainy station, the Stream was having a greater water
volume that diluted parasites concentration. As for the analysis of bacteria, we observed total and fecal coliforms in nine analyzed points.
