Health Regional of São João del Rey-MG. It was carried through a descriptive study with analysis of data obtained from SISVAN database
regarding December 2006. The sample was constituted by 15.933 people then enrolled in this system. Body Mass Index (BMI) data were
analyzed according to gender and age. Among children we observed a prevalence of low weight (80%), while most adults of all genders
presented overweight. These findings point to the necessity of implementing instructional multi and interdisciplinary programs including
not only nutritional aspects bur also preventive measures for cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus for the adult population of
this region, as we know overweight is considered one of risk factors for these diseases.
