Fees, Waivers, and Cost Transparency Policy (Article Processing Charges – APC Transparency)

O Mundo da Saúde is a non-profit, open-access scientific journal with continuous publication that does not receive institutional funding or have its own resources to fully cover its editorial activities.

In accordance with the principles of scientific integrity, equity, transparency, and open science, as recommended by the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the journal clarifies that no fees are charged for editorial evaluation or peer review. All editorial decisions are based exclusively on the scientific merit, originality, and methodological quality of the manuscripts, without any financial interference.

The fee charged by the journal refers exclusively to the services of editorial analysis and translation of manuscripts approved for publication, with the purpose of enhancing the international visibility, linguistic accessibility, and scientific impact of the published articles. This fee is applied in a minimal amount at the time of submission and after the final approval of the manuscript, and it does not, under any circumstances, constitute a condition for editorial evaluation or acceptance.

It should also be emphasized that the journal is built collaboratively, relying on the voluntary engagement of editors, reviewers, and researchers, which makes possible its continuity and the strengthening of the scientific community that supports it. Any fee related to editorial analysis and translation is part of this collective effort, contributing to the maintenance of editorial activities and to the ongoing support for the production and dissemination of high-quality research.

The journal explicitly ensures the possibility of a full waiver of the translation fee in cases where the author(s) formally justify their financial inability to bear the costs. Requests for waivers are assessed by the editorial team in a careful, ethical, and confidential manner, ensuring that economic constraints do not constitute barriers to scientific publication.

Any applicable fees, as well as the criteria for waivers, are communicated to authors in a clear, prior, and transparent manner. It is emphasized that the resources collected are used exclusively to cover essential technical services (translation) and are not allocated to the remuneration of editors, reviewers, or referees, nor do they influence editorial decisions.

This collaborative model allows the journal to:

  • Maintain free and open access to all published content;
  • Avoid financial barriers for readers and authors;
  • Ensure the continuity of the editorial workflow;
  • Promote the internationalization of scientific production while respecting principles of equity and inclusion.

O Mundo da Saúde reaffirms that its fee and waiver policy is fully aligned with the APC transparency criteria of the DOAJ, international best editorial practices, and the principles of justice and social responsibility in science.
