Abstract

This work analyzes the influences of the philosophical doctrines of positivism and hygienism in the first stages of Physical
Education and Capoeira in Brazil. The work is the result of a historical research based on primary sources. The methodological parameters
had as an analytical referential documental studies found in public archives, as well as bibliographical surveys and correlation studies.
It has as a goal to deepen knowledge regarding facts that happened in our recent history, and had bequeathed us our current way of
life, facts that normally go unnoticed. To this end it presents the organizational axles of Brazilian National Gymnastics (Capoeira) and
its context.
