Abstract

The present article is a report of experience that aims to describe the “new” role the physiotherapy developed in a Program
directed toward old people in a hospital-school of São Paulo City called Group for Multidisciplinary Assistance of Ambulatorial Old
People (GAMIA) that completes 22 years in 2006. It is a pioneering program that involves a multidisciplinary team that works for the
promotion of health and the social reinsertion of old people by means of the valuation of self-image, the enhancement of the remaining
capacities, minimization of functional dependence and the prevention of incapacities.
