Abstract

Social, productive and leisure activities are mentioned in scientific literature as strategies of policies for the promotion of
health and quality of life in aging. Longitudinal effects of the practice of these activities in aging little have non conclusive or non
explored results. The aim of this study was to evaluate longitudinal effects of the performance of social, productive and leisure activities
in aging. Material and method: A systematic Literature survey including Medline, Scielo, Lilacs, Pubmed, Journal Storage, MUSE
(1984-2009) databases. We analyzed the variables time of follow-up, lose of support, control variables, sample size, statistic analysis,
impact of the performance of social, productive and leisure activities in aging. 31 articles were selected. Results have shown positive
effects from the practice of social, productive and leisure activities in aging, especially regarding mortality, functional capacity, mental
condition and well-being. The positive results of the performance of those activities on functionality suggest the necessity of including
those activities in programs of old people health promotion and functional rehabilitation.
