Construction and validation of an educational checklist for teaching nursing care in labor and birth

This study aimed to construct and validate an educational checklist oriented toward teaching nursing care in labor and birth. This is a methodological study grounded in the Checklist Development Checklist, developed in four stages: instrument elaboration, content review, validation by specialists and the target population, and pilot testing. Thirty-two obstetric nursing specialists participated in the content validity stage, and 30 undergraduate students participated in the appearance assessment. A minimum agreement index of 80% was adopted, along with the exact binomial test for reliability analysis and the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient to verify consistency among evaluators. The results evidenced an overall agreement index of 97.4% among specialists and 99.1% among students. In the pilot test, the overall index was 98.9% in the laboratory setting and 100% in a real clinical scenario, indicating high instrument reliability. It is concluded that the checklist presented evidence of content and appearance validity, proving to be a promising tool for qualifying the teaching of nursing care in labor and birth.
