Abstract

Despite the variability presented by recurrent laryngeal nerve in the trajectory towards the larynx, surgeons of the cervical
region agree that the critical points are situated in the levels of the inferior thyroidal artery, suspensory ligament of thyroid gland
(Berry ligament), proximity with the capsule of thyroid gland and the passage through the inferior pharyngeal constrictor muscle. This
research has as its aim to investigate the relationship of recurrent laryngeal nerve with the suspensory ligament of thyroid gland (Berry
ligament) and with the capsule of thyroid gland. Recurrent laryngeal nerve has an important relationship of contact with suspensory
ligament of thyroid gland (Berry ligament), but the partial involvement of the nerve is not very frequent. Recurrent laryngeal nerve
comes in contact with the capsule of thyroid gland, but in most cases the contact is external.
